Get the most out of your mobile phone camera

Once you have decided that it is allright to snap photos with your mobile phone camera and that you do not need an uncomfortable dslr-camera, you will need to realise the potential of your mobile camera. The pocket shooter...

Here are to begin with 3 rules that you should follow:

The mobile phone camera rules of engagement
  1. Get up close and dirty. The current generation of mobile phone cameras (I use a Sony Ericsson C902, which sports a 5 megapixel camera) does have a lot of megapixels and some fine mechanics, but they can in no way compete with an even mediocre dslr or an ordinary point-and-click-pocket camera.
  2. No crowds. An extension of the above rule. the more people you try to contain in your photo, the messier they become. Which leads to rule number...
  3. Nice and tidy is better than messy. You are a story-teller, with your camera. Even more so when choosing a mobile phone camera as your tool. A mobile phone camera is excellent for streetwise photo shots of people and places. You are less conspicous with this type of camera in your hand, than with a slr or point-and-click camera. You can even manage to pass for a local guy while using a mobile camera. And you have better options for shooting on the move, which is a great way to get new and interesting pictures.
